Peter,
Many thanks for this reply. Have ordered up 14mm synethic hemp and we shall try doing it this way.
Best wishes,
Julie & Mike

When I replaced the fender rope on my Navigator I used 4mm synthetic hemp to match the new fender, fed it through the holes in the gunwale and simply tied it around (underneath) the new rope. The knot can be hidden between the strands of the fender and the tails simply lost in the coils. Nice neat job and should be rot-proof unlike the previous cable ties...

Hi Ollie,
Nylon braid was standard, as cable ties can break (as ours did). We are told a form of slip knot was used but the yard do not know what type of slipknot. Hopefully someone will.

I have recently removed the rope fender from my Pilot 20 as it was falling to pieces! I found that it had been secured to the hoops with small cable ties, I'd presumed that was standard practice. I am due to put the new one on shortly and I would be interested to know how yours was fastened using the nylon braid to which you refer, if only to give me another option. I'm sure expert knowledge must be out there somewhere!

The boatyard have to retie the nylon braid that secures the rope fender to the metal hoops screws into the hull near the bow of our Hardy 25. They are not sure what knot is used and how it is tied off. Does anyone know what type of knot should be used ?
