I had similar issues with rope damage faced when refurbishing my FP. I sourced a piece of cowhide (about £15), cut into two and with a drill created lacing holes and then wrapped around the rope and laced tightly with strong nylon cord. I now only have to dubbin the leather 'as and when', looks like it was always there! Hope this helps.

Is there any 'solution' which can be applied to a rope rubbing strake to preserve and stop the growth of moss, especially where the deck water exits the gunwhales.

Where the deck drains out over the rope rubbing strake on my Hardy Family Pilot, I have covered the rubbing strake with a 300mm length of upvc rainwater pipe, with a slot cut in. The pipe can be opened out and slipped over the rope, provides protection from the deck water and the slot enables the rope to breath as well.
