I wondered that as well! Did a bit of research and I think I'm correct in saying it is an engine management system used on the now defunct Evinrude E-Tec outboard engines. These engines are or more correctly were 2 stroke engines with a greater power to weight ratio than comparable 4 stroke engines. The EMM's are very expensive if they go wrong as indeed are comparable ECUs for engines like Mercury, Tohatsu and Honda etc

For those who might be interested, I can recommend these guys for EMM repair. Although not cheap, they are certainly cheaper than buying a new unit. Email correspondence was very quick. My unit was collected, repaired and, shipped back, in a week.
