Hi all,

Having a few issues with my Honda bf75a carb model, and thinking about replacing her.
I have a pilot currently moored in Largs marina.

Looking to get similar size engine with good fuel consumption and good reliablity too.

Did like the sound of the etec but heard of few reliability problems with them.

Really have no idea what to get? Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha list goes on.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Donnie

Hi Willem
I have a fuel injected Suzuki DF70 on my family pilot which I launch in Largs and keep on a swing mooring in Millport for the season.
Gives me good fuel economy and I have found it to be very reliable.
Sometimes it just comes down to personal choice or what kind of deal you can get.
I got mine used with only 500 hours on it from DDZ.

Kind regards
Robert.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for responding.

Would have liked to stick to Honda but with boat listing Max 75 hp I don't want to put an 80 on and have issues with insurance and a dont want to go down a 60.

I was looking at a few Suzuki's today.
Do you get the engine served or do it yourself?
Who do you use for your servicing?

Thanks

Donnie

Hi Donnie
Basic oil changes I do myself however for a proper service I use Clyde Outboard Services at Port Glasgow. They will service it and do a full diagnostic check and supply you with a comprehensive computer printout.
They provide a mobile service so can come to you, but I just book my pilot in and take it over to them on its trailer and collect when it's ready.

Kind regards
Robert.

Donnie, Robert,

I have used Clyde Outboard for annual service on Honda BF75 at Holy Loch for last six seasons. Cameron takes ferry over to marina. Found customer service very good and reliable.

Like anything 'boat',service does not come cheap. Gives peace of mind if you are sailing a lot, going on long trips.

Hi,

Thanks for feed back.

Clyde are looking into pricing me up a package for Suzuki.
Spoke to Alex at Mitchells outboard and got a price for mariner set up.

Looked a etec outboard but think 4 stroke will be better for my style of boating, lots of pottering about.

Regards

Donnie

Hi Robert,

Well have bit the bullet and just ordered package deal with Clyde outboards, dropping boat there tomorrow.

Went for mariner 75hp, mariner 6hp, full fitting pack(new dials, controls and cables) fuel tank and the new vessel view system that sends all engine info to my mobile.
Vessel view system looks great the garage can log into it even when I'm on the water if a fault happens with it.

Glad to finally put it to bed, who would have thought buying a new engine would be so stressful 🤤

Away for a weeks holiday and a break from looking at engines haha.

Can't wait to get back on the water though, not been out in an age.

Regards

Donnie
