Malcolm , I think the bulb you require has the base of an MR 16 bulb, it has two steel pins that go into a base with two small sockets. Are the two metal protrusions hollow or solid ? If they are hollow it is a possibility that a bulb might slot into the tubes. If they are solid they may be parts of the previous bulb and if they don’t pull out they may be welded in with the heat.
A MR 16 bulb is 240volts but I have in the past had 12volt bulbs with pins. I did find a bulb chart on eBay showing all the different types and their respective bases ,so google car 12volt bulb charts and also bulbs for American car bulbs.
Let me know how you get on.
Steve.

* Hello Steve,( and others) I was able to get to the boat today! I cannot find any reference to the make of the searchlight, but I have taken a photo of the handle and I've taken the front lens off and taken some photos of the old bulb holder, which I hope will help. Maybe I could replace the holder with a LED holder and bulb, but I've no idea how powerful this should be. I would welcome any advice please.

P.s. to message 4.
Malcolm what is the make of the lamp ? If not in the lamp what does the handle look like ? Photos if you can of all parts. If I can’t help someone else might recognise it.

Steve.

Hi Malcolm, Have you had the lamp apart ?
It looks like the bulb may fit in at the back of that centre piece can you remove the lense and centre. ie. the round brass centre at the front. And post a photo of the other side of it, I may be able to give you a clue.

I was thinking along the same lines as Tony but perhaps an LED replacement. It might need a bit of experimentation to get the right LED at the same focal point of the reflector. I bought an LED replacement for my Maglite torch that was designed to be a direct replacement of the old filament and the difference is amazing.

Hi Malcolm, looks an interesting old piece of kit.
Can't be of any help with sourcing parts or replacement, sorry.
Just a thought, would it be possible to dismantle and upgrade internals to fit new bulb holder and bulb? Depends how important keeping it original versus having it usable.
All the best, Tony

* The searchlight on my Hardy Fisher 20 has lost its bulb and bulb fitting. Does anybody have one, or an old searchlight, of this kind, that they wish to sell. The light is controlled from a handle in the cockpit of the boat.
