Hi Peter and Liz.

Nice boats the 194, the original Max rating was a 60hp. The 50hp should be reasonable, but it usually pays to max out the power - I'd say go for the punchiest 60hp you can. If you go for more power than a 60hp - clear it with your insurance company first - and make sure acceptance is in writing. Don't go too heavy with the engine - the big fourstroke 75hp engines (170kg+ for most) would likely be a bit on the heavy side.

I have brochures for the 194 with pictures of the original interior and exterior. If a scanned copy would be useful - let me know and I'll email a copy - info@southernmarinesurveys.co.uk

Best Regards

* We are Peter and Liz we live in Dorset and have just joined H O C. We have bought a Sea wings 194 in poor condition to eventually replace our Shetland family four which we have owned for 18 years, now our children have grown up and gone we would like to undertake slightly longer trips and extend the season in comfort.

My first dilemma is what engine to use. She presently has a Suzuki 15hp four stroke which is fine for canals but as we would like to take her around the Dorset and Devon coastline, and possibly further, a bigger engine is needed. On our Shetland we have a 2002 Yamaha 50hp (only 115 hours) which purrs nicely on the canals and pushes the Shetland well along the coast and even allows my nephew to ski. The simplest option would be to swap engines over, which will devalue the Shetland, or should I bite the bullet and get a larger engine for the Hardy?
Any comments are most welcome
Does anyone in the south or south west have a seawings 194 we could look at for ideas please. Her outside and interior need attention but we would like to make sure she is still "authentic"
Thanks
