Ahoy Peter, Nice to hear from you. How is everything going ? I will make a note and pop something into the magazine about it. Anthony is down in Devon now, but there are others who might be interested. Many thanks to you, and all the best, Marie.

Marie I'm planning to bring my boat to the Medway River Festival again, this year it's Saturday 9 July, according to the Council. Perhaps a meet of the Medway locals might coincide with that? I know you and Anthony tried last year but for various good reasons it didn't come off - is it worth another try? Peter

All, Just a thought on this. HOC Gallery gives members the opportunity to supply names, home port etc. This option is already available for whoever wishes to publish this level of detail. Alternatively a contact list that could help promote the club and protect members data could only be a good thing. Kenny

Hi Mike, I've written to John to get another opinion. I should think that we should be able to compile a list with the minimum information on it. Leave it with me for a bit and I will see what we can come up with that does not have DP issues or bother Sue. We used to do this and send a list out with the magazines, but that is another issue as regards cost. I could print something in the magazine, but then it would only come out three times a year and then it would not be up to date each time. Let me ponder a bit more..... All the best, Marie

Hi Marie, I was thinking really of just a casual as hoc meeting up thing, rather like Roger and I have done on his boat. We had a cup of tea and chatted about local issues and Hardy things like you do! I guess it would be possible to arrange a meeting on here without actually posting any contact details such as phone numbers although perhaps emails are not a problem! I think it may be particularly useful for new members. However, as you say, the take up may not justify it but it may be interesting to give it a go! Not much else to do today other than play on the computer! Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike, I think that is a wonderful idea and it would be a great plan, providing the members were to contact us about it in the first instance. Over the years we have had one or two ideas like this suggested for the magazine and I have subsequently published them, however, few if any members have actually contacted me and in the end, we have dropped the idea because of space requirements in the various issues. We occasionally have posted little requests here and there as and when they arrive. For instance if someone contacts me and wants to tell us about their Hardy, and mentions the fact that they would like to meet up with others, then I usually place a little notice at the bottom of their article. As regards actual 'meets' - last year Anthony Purnell, Simon Kidd and myself all tried in vain to stimulate interest within the membership - and tried to get members to talk to one another from various parts of the country and abroad. I have not given up on this idea and will try again this year. In the meantime, if any HOC member would like to make contact with other local members in their respective areas, then please make yourselves known to me, and I will try and make space in the next issue to publish the fact. I will speak to John our Webmaster as regards our actual HOC website/Members area, but as you can appreciate, publishing personal details en masse is a delicate matter and it is very much up to the individuals concerned. All the very best, Marie HOC Editor

Just a thought! Would it be possible to have a section where members can introduce themselves such as Hi, I'm Fred,I have a Hardy on the Hamble and would like to hear from members in the area to perhaps meet up. Or whatever! I assume this is ok DPA wise and would save giving Sue more work! Mike on the Hamble!

Ahoy Martin, There are data protection rules, but if you contact the Membership Secretary, she can always contact members near to you to ask if they mind their details being shared. All the best, HOC Editor

Is there a definitive list of HOC members, their boats and locations, or would that somehow breach data protection rules. It could be located in the Members Only section and would enable folk with the same type of boat or who are moored near each other to make contact.
