Ahoy everyone, I received this email today and have decided to post it here in our Forum. Message: Hi I run a company that fabricates & engineers plastics. We have recently made a set of Windows for a Hardy Pilot Family 20 using 4mm Perspex Tinted Acrylic which are not now required. 4mm Acrylic tint is rare and usually only available in large quantities. Rather than discarding them are there any owners who would benefit from them at a knock down price. Sizes are available. My factory is in Havant, Hampshire. Would you like to advertise this to your owners ? Regards Clive Joyce Hampshire Signs & Plastics Ltd. 02392 486633 After discussing this topic with Simon Papendick (our technical adviser) I decided that as long as members were aware that depending on the environment in which they actually use their boats - ie. inland or off shore, there might be some issues as regards safety. The cabin windows need to curve, and are under tension all of the time, so acrylic would be ok for them, but the cockpit windows were always toughened glass because of their size. Severe weather at sea could be a problem, although on rivers and canals it would be ok. Again, if a member decides to sell their boat, this might become an issue further down the line, if the new owner wants to use their craft off shore. So I decided to say that I would mention this on the posting and then it was up to members to contact Clive directly should they want to take him up on his offer, but that as a Club we could not endorse the use of these type of windows completely, because of the reasons previously stated.
