Hi Simon, Thanks for the prompt reply that is really helpful, I guessed at 88 for the insurance so thanks for confirming. Not Devon but up in Minehead in Somerset, will be keeping her on my mooring in the harbour. I had a River Teign Seine boat up until now so this is a bit of an upgrade, my desperate attempts to get the Seine rowing established up here was a bit of a lost cause. It was a bit of an impulse buy and I guess I paid slightly over the odds, but heyho. Was looking for a cuddy boat of about 18' but was looking at the Spectrum 480 and Quicksilver 470, however saw this an kind of fell in love with it. The more I have read on this website the more convinced I have made the right choice for my needs. Doing some final touching up on the drive at the mo (not sure the wife or neighbors are that impressed, its a little taller than the Seine boat), plan to launch in a couple of weeks. Cheers Phil

Hi Phil. She's 100% a Hardy Navigator 18 - nice looking boat - the mis naming of boats when advertising really frustrates me......calm down Simon, calm down.... ;-) Hardy Marine are the only ones who hold the "Database", but I can have a good guess based on your number (We've had a couple of Navigators - 1986 No,1404 and 1991 No 2428), and certain design elements of your boat. Looking at the photos and those on the sellers website (Been keeping an eye on her) - she still has the Hardy 537 Mast Step forward of the Wheel House, and has the timber shelving inside (Indicating Before 1989/90) - she seems to have an original blue helm seat and the transversely mounted forward cleat - so, she must be after 1986, but before 1990 I think. Looking at the boat number I'd guess around 1987 /88 - highly likely 1988 - but quite certainly near those years. Try giving Hardy a Call after Easter and hopefully they can tell you exactly. Your late 80's guess is dead on in my view. Are you keeping her in the Devon Area? Our Navigator is in Dartmouth - if you're local - do arrange to pop down and visit us sometime.. Best Regards Simon.

* Hi, I have just purchased a Navigator and would like to know the hull age. I have tried contacting Hardy but had no reply. The hull number is 1915. The boat was advertised as a Hardy 18 Pilot but am pretty sure its a Navigator. Any clues would be appreciated I am guessing its late 80's. Cheers Phil Boat was previously called Tom Thumb.

Simon, I have found the plate with the number; well out of sight near the hull below the wheel. It is 2777 so I will contact Hardy Marine re her age. Thanks Nicholas

Nicholas, You need to find the hull number first - then Hardy Marine should be able to check this for you and tell you the date of build. The number should be on a pate fixed to the helm station, normally right under on the starboard side. If not, it should be stamped on the outside of the hull at the transom (and often inside too) usually on the port side - I have seen starboard too. Look up near the rope fender / rubbing stake. I haven't failed finding one here yet. Failing that, look at the cupboard doors and under the berth bases etc - The parts were usually numbered with the hull number at the factory - so the correct parts went on the correct boat during build. Unless very old, the number will be a four digit number, usually beginning with a one or a two. Let me know if you find it! Best Regards Simon.

How can I find out the age of my Family Pilot 20? Is there a number hidden somewhere? Regards Nicholas
