Hi Steve An extremely belated (2 yrs on!) Thank you!! for your very kind update on the status quo at West Bay. In fact we visited there in July 2014 on a return leg from Lyme to Poole. A satisfactory spot to escape to when it blows up at sea (as it did for us) but still (as it used to) a tiresome swell can badly rock the wobbly grey visitors pontoon when there is any south in the wind. Jura Pilot suffered some bad gel coat abrasion there (and part torn canopy) when it got momentarily very rough out at sea and a rolling surf came straight up the channel violently rocking all the tied up craft. In such conditions all manner of launching blunders can be witnessed on the public slip adjacent. West Bay itself we find a pleasant seaside town if, as you say, a little 'lively' in season. A few great cafes. Bridport is lovely and well worth the trip ashore. Best wishes Dominic and Nicola

Stayed there last September on the wobbly grey pontoon. Okay if there's little or no south or east in the wind, and decent westerly will have swell creeping round the corner. Expensive - 18 quid I think, whatever size of boat. New, though basic shower and loo facilities. Clean though. George is a nice pub lively in season but good beer. Food seems good. I live near Weymouth, so any info just ask.

Dear all Wondering if anyone has recently overnighted on West Bay's visitor moorings (Bridport, West Dorset)? How good are they and can we expect a comfortable night's sleep? Recommended eaterie/watering hole locally? We have not been there for some years so would be useful to know if things have improved since the overhaul of the harbour. Planning a passage to Lyme and weighing up dropping in there. Many thanks for any advice The Gribbin Gang.
