Great stuff Roger. Glad I could be of help when you called last. Who knows, may bump into your local fleet one day. Best wishes for a great Summer's boating Dominic, Nicola and the boys.

Hi Dominic and Nicola, Thanks very much for the info. I've a head start with the alu cockpit side sliding windows (which are really great for fresh air as you say), as mine has them already, and they got me thinking. I liked the look of the front windows in the new frames that you have, and I have always suspected my cabin window seals of leaking as there was a bit of damp around when I bought the boat, but I've never actually caught them at it! The proposal will have to go before the Finance and General Purposes Committee for approval.....! Regards, Tim G.

Hi Tim Our original windows were the rubber edged type typical of early 1990's Pilots. Prone to perishing and shrinkage over the years, ours leaked quite badly in the front cabin area throughout our round GB trip. Following our trip it took little prompting to replace all our windows with the aluminium type typical of the Pilot SE onwards. We opted for 4mm glass panes and side sliders in the cockpit, perspex-slightly curved panes to the forward cabin. We used Seaglaze of Norfolk. Great outfit who worked closely with the templates I provided and produced a set of beautiful very high quality windows for Jura Pilot. We have never looked back. It transformed JP into a lovely dry boat in which we could actually have fresh air in the wheelhouse! Does add some extra weight overal to the boat. Cost 4 years or so ago was £2500. I fitted them. Hi, I recall from the photos that accompanied the article (a good read!) that Jura Pilot had aluminium-framed front windows in the pilot house. Mine are somewhat scratched, and I was thinking of replacing them - would the Gribbin team be able to recall who supplied the replacements? Grateful for any info. Thanks, Tim Guest

Hi Steven Although i would love to publish this article on the net, sadly, as i did not write it, it is the copyright property of MBW alias YBW. Really sorry about that. As I say you can purchase this from YBW as a back copy. I have a text only proof copy I could send you? Message me your address via HOC webmaster and I'll send it to you. Strikes me I need to write the book! Many thanks for your interest and hope this helps. Dominic, Nicola, Thomas, Sam and Ben.

Hi Peter Glad you enjoyed the read! The Motor Boats Monthly article on the same story from 2005 is also worth a read. Available as a back copy from YBW. You may be interested to know we are hoping to re-visit one particular stretch of GB coast in 2012 with our boys aboard Jura Pilot (whilst we still all fit in her!) Back in 2004 on the circumnavigation, whilst being battered by prolonged weather from the SW, in a bid to escape, we crossed the Irish sea from Solva, Pembrokeshire to SE Ireland (Tusker Rock and Wexford). The eastern seaboard of Ireland allowed us, relatively unhindered, to then steam north and re-cross back to Scotland from Antrim to The Mull of Kintyre across the North Channel to continue our round GB trip. That left the stretch from Solva, north to Liverpool and on to Largs in SW Scotland un-visited. This is the stretch we plan to do. Two weeks I would fancy, weather permitting. Maybe a book should then follow!!! Regards and roll on the Spring Dominic, Nicola and gang.

Hi the Gribbin gang... There must be many of us newbies who would love to read your MBM article. Can you make it available as a general download or something?

Hi Steve. As a starter, I have (so far) unearthed a text-only version of the old Motor Boat Monthly article. You are welcome to a copy. E-mail me yur postal address via the webmaster of HOC and I'll send you it. Your hunt for the HOC part 2 article had me puzzled. Now I know why. There was no part two to the best of my knowledge. Check with the HOC editorial but pretty sure no part two was written. I am now very keen to find the original colour MBM magazine article so I'm still hunting amoungst boxes. will update. Speak soon Dominic.
