Hello there, just read your comment, long time ago, i hear what you are saying, i have the same boat myself i think (with a cabin?) have an old 2 stroke electric start on her but going nowhere fast but like you say very very stable when fishing. Enjoy yourself.

i have owned a hardy fishinf18 for 3 years best boat i have ever bought. it had a50 hp on it when i bought it. total waste of time 15 knots max and as soon as you come off the power the nose dips and bow steers. i immdiatly put on a 90 hp mariner. totally transforms the boat for the better, 38 knots max. does not bow steer. the boat handles the power very well, easily up on the planei also have a high five prop on it which improves it yet again. stays on the plane at lower speeds even when heavy with fish and a few pots on. forget fins etc just go for a big engine.
