Greetings - For many years I have carried a Martindale Electric Co. Socket Tester (product No. BZ101 £17.50) which by means of three lights, on or off, will show you at a glance if the circuit is wired correctly or otherwise. Martindale have a good website & electrical wholesalers will stock the socket tester. Never go into a marina supply point without testing first is my approach. Cheers Brian Ex. HOC magazine Hon. Editor.

Hi John, thanks for that, you were on the right track, it turned out that although we had used the marina we pulled into before, we hadn't used the berth before and the shore connection box was further away, meaning we had to use an extension on the shore power cable. That extension had the live and neutral reversed on one end. All now sweetness and light, thanks again for the prompt response.

Hi, we have a Hardy Seawings 305, that due to a dodgey seacock had a foot of water in her last night. We have dried the water out, and all seems well, except, when we connect shore power ( as we have done at this marina many times with no problems ) the orange warning light saying incorrect polarity comes up on the AC panel and there is no power to any ac device. DC power is fine from the batteries, and all instrumentation works as well as the engines. Any pointers much appreciated, thanks in anticipation. Ray

I should think something has happened to the Live/Neutral shore power connection where it comes into the boat or distribution panel, especially if it has been under water. This could have easily corroded one or more connections due to electrolysis. Or maybe something else has been damaged due to sea water, such as a battery charger or an appliance. I should be very careful since it all obviously needs to be checked out thoroughly before use.
