Yes, I've seen the Red Pepper site and think the standard of finish he has achieved is terrific (though we both have had problems with the uneveness of some of the 'inside grp work') . My approach is to finish mostly with white paint and 'trackmark type'flooring. The object of the exercise is to end up with an uncluttered boat with minimum equipment for mostly day use only. With Hardy build quality and the low price of older boats, ours is getting a new lease of life. Michael

I have noticed that Michael Herridge is modernising his Family Pilot, and wondered if he might like to visit an interesting website, www.shorebase.co.uk, run by a chap named Paul, who appears to have led a very full and interesting life, with many varied leisure activities over the years. One of his projects was to modernise a Family Pilot. If you visit the site and go to the boating section, then scroll down the many craft that he has owned, you will find the Pilot named Red Pepper. There is a detailed list of the work he carried out and a good set of photographs accompanying it. All the best, Marie

Michael Congratulations on completing such an ambitious project. Maybe you'd get a chance at some point to post some pictures in the Gallery? I'm sure others would like to see what you've achieved. Regarding the convertible top, I quite like the fixed wheel house roof on my Pilot. Especially since our summers are so variable. In Ireland anyway. I think the removable hatch is useful for letting in more light. I think one of the early Navigator varaitions had a convertible roof. the 17 PH maybe? Hopefully I got the model name correct. Cheers Andy

Well, the galley has now gone (as has the quarter berth), the bulhead rebuilt/re-enforced and the result is a big airy cockpit! Next the roof... Michael

Our Hardy Pilot dates from 1983 and, although we have repainted it and fitted a new Suzuki, the interior is pretty grim. I am in the process of stripping out deteriorating brown carpet and generally getting rid of fittings that are no longer relevant since it is now used as a practical dayboat. A couple of questions: Has anyone completely removed the moulding that forms the galley and cover for the quarter berth? Obviously the bulkehead would have to be rebuilt but the extra space in the wheelhouse would be useful. Also, has anyone removed the roof from the wheelhouse and replaced it with some sort of 'convertible' arrangement? Advice welcome and thanks in advance, Michael
