Thanks Cairns and Charlie. I have obtained a heavy duty extension bracket from my local boat chandlery which is just the ticket. I've bolted it to the fixed bracket and it provides an extra 9-10 inches of room for the outboard. The tiller arm now loweres sufficiently to operate the engine properly - it's very nearly horizontal. The whole lot moves up and down in the fixed runners although you wouldn't want to move it very often!! I've left it in the down position and with the engine on maximum rachet it's well clear of the water when not in use. The bracket cost me £50. So hopefully I've sorted it out - the engine sits next to my bathing platform so I've got full use of that as well. Thanks again for your comments. Richard

I believe I have the same problem. Have just had a new main engine fitted so not yet had time to pursue a solution for the outboard. Look forward to input from others more experienced. Cairns Langlands

Richard, My 25 which is inboard/outdrive has a bathing platform on which a bracket is mounted to take an aux outboard. This is an ideal setup, but if you do not have, or want a platform on your boat, then I reckon you would need to have a bracket specially made, perhaps from 25mm stainless steel tube. I would not be without my bathing platform, it serves many useful purposes. Worth thinking about. Charlie.

I have just purchased a new Mariner 10 HP longshaft reserve outboard engine for my Hardy 25. It is mounted on a sliding bracket a fixed distance from the back of the boat. However, as it is still very close to the boat, and has to be well down the back to reach the water, it is very difficult to use and almost impossible to steer - the tiller control sticks up almost vertically. Does anyone have any suggestions please? I have thought about attaching a further bracket to the existig one but am concerning about the extra sheering forces this would create. Has anyone come across a bracket designed for the purpose or is it possible to get one fabricated? It would need to lower in such a way as to take the engine down and out a good 18-20 inches to mke it useable. I look forward to hearing form other 25 owners who have mnaged to solve this problem! Many thanks, Richard.
