Sorry Stephen but the answer is to get rid of the engines and get a single 70 odd HP instead. twin 30's will be less efficient than a single 60. Hardy's seem to enjoy trim tabs too. I am relucantly selling my Pilot so you could have purchased mine which would have been ideal. Kind regards Angus

FAO Dominic and Angus The fault with the system was down to a drip of water running down the back of the main switches on the dash, this was coming from condensation causing the fuse to trip.A good clean up with an electrical moisture spray change of fuse and sealed with tape has done the trick. A complete change in the boats performance, with 4 adults on board 50ltrs of fuel the 50hp 4 stroke at 80% power will push her along at 17kts trimmed to suit, untrimed she falls down to 12kts.I have also obviously noticed a marked saving in the fuel also. Thanks again John

Check that there is hydralic oil in the trim tab pump ( if its that sort) Also I found my tabs have a automatic cut out switch which turns stuff off when it feels in the mood... simply have to reactivate it. Always leave tabs in the up position... thus preventing marine growth on the rams when mooring the boat.

If they are metal Bennett trim tabs the ram units will be replaceable. Seems a shame to ditch the whole system as they were probably fitted for good reason (reference long debates in HOC forum). Seizure typically happens if the tabs are left in the down position for too long and marine growth etc fouls the ram. Moral of the story, always retract your tabs at the end of the day. Bespoke wiper blades can be purchased from Hardy Marine directly, ref. links on this website. Hope this helps Dominic.

I have recently purchased a Fisher 18 that has trim tabs that don't operate, they seem set level with the hull and my 50hp has power trim/tilt but in a following sea the boat is awkward to handle (porpoising) and the engine starts to cavitate. Would it be better to remove the tabs or continue with power tilt/trim. Any info on all the mentioned asspects greatly appreciated. Also where can I buy a replacement wiper blade, it looks like the unit is still the original.
